The Ice House art piece in Detroit has been the subject of both acclaim and derision for the past couple weeks. Which is fine; it made two of the coldest weeks in the middle of winter pass by in a far more interesting way than normal here in the city. I do not wish to express an opinion either way on the subject, however, choosing instead to focus on the sorely underwritten about and criminally non-crowd-drawing "Ice Potato." In fact it is the non-spectacle inducing manner of the piece which lends it its beauty. Indeed, I was able to spend an entire ten minutes of solitude with the Ice Potato. Occasionally a car would pass by, slow for a moment, as if curious, but then proceed on, wrongly believing there was nothing to see. I was able to get a few photos, and highly recommend viewing at night, although I am unwilling to disclose it's location for fear of corrupting the piece.
It's beauty is ungodly!
ReplyDeleteLet us not forget that other timeless work by some anonymous homeless person.."The Frozen Turd" said to be found in the Cass and Seldon area of Detroit...truly a magnificant "specimen" to be admired by all art lovers.
